nordic design

My design esthetic has always been vintage eclectic glam with a touch of modern. However, just as your taste buds change over the years, the older I get my design esthetic is changing. Don't get me wrong, I still love glitz & glam, vintage baubles but I have been drawn to simple, modern, graphic pops, statement pieces and honestly becoming more of a minimalist.
It might be because I have a 3 year old who makes more of mess now then she ever has and I can't handle the mess anymore.
It also might be because I'm drawn to how others live in other parts of the world. Europe, UK, & Australian lifestyle is different. In America it is all about having the dream house, cars, money. The land of the free! In other parts of the world it's about spending time with your family, enjoying life, where you live, traveling the world. They live simple, their homes are a tad smaller than what we are a custom to living. They do have three or four people living in a one bedroom flat. Yet, they make the most of the square footage, resulting in it looking & feeling bigger than it is. I love how you will see the black and white color blocking throughout a home, graphic pops in the kitchen, living room, & bedroom. Kids design made for adults.
Which brings me to what my post is really about today. Haha!

Nordic Happy Design
Have you heard of a shop called Little Studio? Well you should check out their website. They have fun playful designs for your home.
Designers, Marit Lissdaniel and Angelica Utterberg wanted their designs to fit children & adults. The two loved how children have the ability to see things for more than they really are. For example, a triangle could be a triangle- but it could also be a mountain. They try to avoid the traditional gender roles so their designs apply to everyone.
The best part about their shop for us in the US, they ship WORLD WIDE!!!

{styled tween}

Today, I wanted to show you a few shots from a recently re-styled girls room I did down in Carlsbad, CA. I had the lovely privilege of designing a 10 year old room from her child like "baby room" as she stated to a room that screams SHAYNA! She wanted lots of color, personality, and a place she could hang out with friends.
I of course wanted to throw in a little bit of vintage and when I mentioned this to her mom she was ECSTATIC! She actually made my job really easy, she had a collection of vintage pieces that she wanted me to use, such as the CUTEST vintage sack dolls I have EVER SEEN! I have added them to my list of smalls I want to collect and pass down to my daughter.
I had an amazing time working with Sherry & Shayna on her tween room and with just a little elbow grease, paint, and my love of shopping (haha!) we made her room a dream come true.
I left the frames empty so Shayna was able to participate in the room design by being the one to choose pictures of her friends and family.
I am dying over these vintage sack dolls!
How cute is this vintage loveseat?
I chose this piece for Shayna because she can read on it, hang out with her friends,  and years to come take it with her to college.
The best part is her mom does not need to worry about her wrecking it, or spilling on it because when she wears it out, or changes her style, all she needs is some new fabric and one phone call to her upholsterer.
Pillows: Home Goods
Loveseat: Craigslist
Rug: Ikea
How sweet!
Frame: Ikea + a can of spray paint
Vintage art
A vintage nightstand found on Craigslist and just a little paint "Voila!"
I fell in love with this desk when I found it! Anything on vintage castors I SWOON over.
Acrylic chairs: Target
Chandelier light: Urban Outfitters

{The OC Mart Mix}

I had to share with you the latest happenings at Haus of Style{d}.
It has been one crazy month at style{d} by karli, between styling, interior design projects, events and a new partnership with {Elite Social Management} {I am there new Creative Strategist}.
I have had no time to blog!

One event I was apart of this month was held at the new HOTT spot in Orange County,
THE OC MART MIX!

The OC Mart Mix is a totally unique shopping experience. It's a large retail space within South Coast Collection {SoCo} retail center where you will find more than 20 one of kind boutiques including a wine bar. This is my kind of place!
In the next few months, they will be finishing phase two of the development with 25 more shops.
It really is a huge family and community!!

So of course when asked to be apart of The OC MART MIX Fashion Show and design the runway backdrop. I immediately jumped on it!

OMG, vintage inspired lingerie by Briana Rene

Summer from B. Bride with Wanda {Beverly Hills Basics} & Jennifer {COO of ESM}
Did I mention, Elite Social Management handled all the social media coverage for the event!
Paper House, owner Andrea Young has gorgeous paper as well as amazing accessories & vintage finds.
